Alp Gitschen, situated at 1718 meters / 5636 feet above sea level is reached by a tiny gondola from Chäppeliberg – off the main road to the San Gottardo pass. From there, we only need to walk some 15 minutes before we reach the beautiful lake Spilauersee. The lake is cristal clear and quite cold, ideal for a refreshing bath in summer. Steep rocks create an amphitheater full of echo. There is lodge close to the gondola but best you bring your own lunch. For the more ambitious hikers, it is possible to make a round trip around Mount Hundstock – some 500 meters / 1600 feet of elevation. If you want to extend your alphorn day, it is possible to stay at Lindernhütte.
